Monster housewife...contd
........A 24-year-old Bhayandar housewife was arrested on Friday for brutally assaulting her 14-year-old domestic help, Mangala. Police said Mangala's body was covered with burns, some of them at least four months old, and her skull was torn open when neighbours found her in a semi-conscious state on the building staircase on Thursday night.
"Didi would hit me with an iron rod because I took too much time to finish work. At times, I was hit with a heated knife or a hot ladle on my back and thighs. It hurt so much I could not sleep properly,"Mangala said in chaste Hindi from her bed in the ICCU of Kasturi Hospital. [ read more ]

Tony, this just makes me sick. When I had read about similar brutality on an Indonesian maid by a Singaporean woman, I had never realized that something like this could be perpetrated by an Indian woman.
I do hope child rights and human rights groups take this up vigorously to make sure that this woman gets the harshest possible sentence.
TM, do read that link on Dhruta.. It was a step mom who almost killed a 6 year child.. I have the pictures sent by the same reporter..
Don't know what really to say. Have seen too many riots in Gujarat to think no one is capable of it. The rich do it, the poor do, the educated do it, the uneducated do it, the men do it, the women do it. All you seem to need is someone in a position to do it, and someone not in a position to defend oneself.

I have always held that men and women are not so very different, and this "equality" has been, sadly, demonstrated time and again by the acts like what happened to this child.
Sudip said the right thing, it is matter of power and oppurtunity, rest is all stereotype.
And who would think a 24 year old woman, just out of her girlhood, would go hammer and tongs at a child.
Look at the woman's pics, just an ordinary looking housewife who could be your or my neighbour..makes it scary to think someone so ordinary turns into a sadistic monster

The irnoy is the "lady" in question had delivered a child and treated other's child in such a manner!!
